Bhutan's Prime Minister visits Punatsangchhu Hydroelectric Project
November 29, 2011 : On November 29, 2011, the Honorable Prime Minister of Bhutan, Lyonchhen Jigme Y. Thinley accompanied by the Honorable Minister of Economic Affairs Lyonpo Khandu Wangchuk, Honorable Minister of Finance Lyonpo Wangdi Norbu, Honorable Minister of Communication Lyonpo Nandlal Rai together with delegates and secretaries visited HCC's Punatsangchhu Hydroelectric Project - I.

The Honorable Prime Minister appreciated the progress of the project. They were quite impressed with the daylighting of the pilot hole of the Vertical Pressure Shaft II (300 mtrs Long)

HCC is currently executing the order for Package MC3 of the 1200 MW Punatsangchhu Hydro Electric Project - I in Bhutan. The project is located on River Punatsangchhu in Wangdue Phodrang Dzongkhag in Western Bhutan. The project involves the construction of a Head Race Tunnel (from Surge Shaft end), Surge Shaft, Butterfly Valve Chamber, Pressure Shafts, Power House and Tail Race Tunnel including Hydro-Mechanical Works.

With work having commenced in 2009, the project is scheduled to be completed in 66 months.
